CARLOS RAFAEL MARTÍNEZ ARROYO
Violin, Viola
Carlos Rafael Martínez Arroyo is an emerging Spanish violinist celebrated for his technical finesse and expressive musicality. Growing up in Spain, he discovered his passion for the violin at a young age and quickly began performing in some of the country’s most esteemed concert halls—including Seville’s Teatro Maestranza, Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional, Barcelona’s Palau de la Música, Córdoba’s Gran Teatro, and the Edgar Neville Auditorium. His early immersion in Spain’s rich musical tradition laid a solid foundation for his artistic development. Carlos refined his craft through eight years of private studies with José María Fernández Benítez and Gonçal Comellas, and later advanced his formal training at the Manhattan School of Music, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree under the guidance of renowned mentors Pinchas Zukerman and Patinka Kopec, and most recently completed his Master’s studies with Mark Steinberg.
His performance career has already spanned multiple continents. As a soloist, he has shared the stage with professional orchestras in Spain, Sweden, the United States, and Mexico. His repertoire covers the classic concerti of Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Bruch, Mendelssohn, and Sibelius, alongside complete works by Bach, Vivaldi’s celebrated The Four Seasons, and Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante. In recital settings, his collaborations with esteemed pianists such as Ángel Andrés Márquez, José García Moreno, Arnold Wolfgang Collado, Seth Schultheis, and Saúl Ibarra have further showcased his versatility and deep interpretative insight.
Recognized as one of Spain’s most promising young talents, Carlos was consecutively selected in 2016, 2017, and 2018 as a member of “Proyecto Talentos,” an initiative by the Madrid Symphony Orchestra that enabled him to perform chamber music at the prestigious Auditorio Nacional. Moreover, his participation in international festivals and developmental programs—including the Isaac Albéniz Festival in Camprodon, Forum Musikae, the Young Artist Program in Ottawa, Blackmore’s Berlin Musikzimmer, the Ashkenasi/Kirshbaum seminar of the Heifetz Institute of Music, and the Robert Mann Institute—has allowed him to collaborate with a distinguished roster of artists such as Nicholas Mann, David Geber, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Ralph Kirshbaum, Philip Sezter, Eugene Drucker, Nicholas Kitchen, Augustin Hadelich, Frederik Øland, Fredrik Sjölin, Rainer Küchl, David Grimal, Pinchas Zukerman, Mark Steinberg, and Samuel Rhodes.
