Empowering Students Through the Joy of Music and the Arts

KESSA MEFFORD

Piano

Kessa Mefford has been an active solo pianist and piano teacher for nearly a decade. She gave her first full solo recital at age 14 and began teaching piano privately less than a year later. She has performed concerts around Westchester and New York City, as well as in Utah during her BM in piano performance at Brigham Young University. She is currently studying under Simone Dinnerstein for her MM and has received prestigious music scholarships from both institutions. She has received several awards in the Great Composers Competition series, including 1st place for the Best Brahms Performance edition. Kessa is an active performer with the Piatigorsky Foundation and will be embarking on a tour to Ohio for them in spring 2019.

Kessa received intensive piano pedagogy training during her BM from Dr. Irene Peery-Fox and Dr. Jared Pierce and participated in UMTA and MTNA events throughout her undergrad. She primarily uses the Faber and Faber piano method in her teaching for a comprehensive, well-rounded approach to music education, supplemented with technique exercises of her own creation to create a strong foundation for students to feel confident in their abilities.
