Piano, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet
Kirk Habana was born and raised in Westchester, NY. He recently graduated with an Artist Diploma in Saxophone Performance from the Schwob School of Music in Columbus, GA where he served as teaching assistant to Dr. Joseph Girard of the Sinta Quartet. His duties included guest lecturing and teaching private lessons, technique classes, and secondary lessons. He performed regularly as part of the CSU Wind Ensemble, Schwob Jazz Orchestra, and multiple saxophone quartets, and was also a guest performer with the CSU Wind Orchestra and CSU Philharmonic.
Kirk also graduated with his Masters degree in Saxophone Performance from Schwob. Prior to his studies at Schwob, Kirk attended Bob Jones University where he received a degree in Piano Pedagogy. He applies many concepts from the rich pedagogical history of the piano to the comparatively young saxophone, but also takes concepts from the versatile nature of the saxophone (and his extensive experience with it) and applies it to the piano to provide a unique pedagogical approach that highly enriches his teaching. Part of his unique teaching style comes from his masterful teachers, notably Joseph Girard, Wendy Warner, and Tatianna Muzanova.
Kirk is an avid performer and his achievements include placing in several concerto competitions/ music contests including the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, MTNA Chamber Competition, Schwob Concerto Competition, and BJU Annual Fine Arts Contest. Select highlights of his solo career include a recital at the Cleveland Institute of Music and a recital for the Gingery-Mack Scholarship Concert Series at Bob Jones University. He has also been featured soloist for the Kaleidoscope concert at Bob Jones University and for several bands and choirs. He has also played in masterclasses for such eminent musicians as Joe Luloff, Hans de Jong, the US Army Field Premier Band, and Paul Nitsch.
As an emerging educator, Kirk has presented masterclasses, clinics, private and group lessons, sectionals, and coachings across the East. He uses his experience from the piano and saxophone to provide unique insight into music; because of this, he has presented at various schools and universities including LaGrange College (in LaGrange, GA), the Rainey-McCullers School of the Arts (in Columbus, GA), at Chattahoochee High School (in Johns Creek, GA), at Columbus State University (for the Schwob Summer Music Festival and Saxophone All-State Etude Clinic in Columbus, GA), and at Hartford Christian Academy (in West Hartford, CT).
Kirk serves as adjunct professor of saxophone at LaGrange College. His current, and past students, have won various awards and have succeeded at auditions. He has had private studios in NY and SC, and has worked at several studios in GA. He currently maintains a private studio in NY and works, virtually, for the Schwob Preparatory Division at Columbus State University where he maintains one of their largest studios. All studios, past and present, include saxophone and piano students of all ages.
