Manager, Manhattan and Bronx & Faculty, Piano
A native of Bulgaria, Ms. Alex began her musical training on the piano at age five. In 1998, she graduated from the International School of Music in Sofia. She furthered her training at the Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria where she studied piano performance with Teodora Nestorova and received her Bachelors of Music degree in 2002. At that time Aleksandra cofounded the Kocheva Duo together with her twin sister Nikoleta Kocheva and foundations “Soros” and ”Pro Helvetia” released their debut album for piano duo “Ad Libitum” . As a recipient of the prestigious Erasmus award and scholarship given by European Union program for outstanding performance, Aleksandra Kocheva continued studying at the Hochschule für Music und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart, Germany, where she studied with Michael Seewann, Marialena Fernandes, Katherine Wickers and Bojidar Noev. In 2004, Ms. Kocheva was invited by the “International Stradivarius Competition” in Malta to be a jury member and special guest for the Piano Summer Festival. As a very active chamber music Player, Aleksandra worked with such artists as Second Instrumental Unit, conductors Tito Muñoz and Marc Williams, violinist David Fulmer and clarinetist Asuka Elias with whom she co-founded Clara Duo in 2006.
In 2006, Alex earned her Masters of Music Degree in Piano Performance from CUNY Queens College, Aaron Copland School of Music, New York. During her studies, she was awarded the Artur Balsam scholarship and received the Chamber Music Live award given for extraordinary achievements in chamber music. She studied with Morey Ritt, Charles Neidich, Michael Lipsey, Daniel Phillips and Marcy Rosen. Aleksandra has been recognized for her artistry in solo recitals and chamber music concerts in theUnited States, Europe and Japan. Her varied repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary works. Ms. Kocheva premiered many compositions by American composers including Takuma Tanikawa, Paul Riker and others. On her Merkin Hall debut concert in 2006, she played the world premiere of Milton Babbitt’s Composition for Twelve Instruments. Highlights of her concert series in 2008/09 include her Carnegie hall debut, Kocheva Duo debut concerts at Steinway Hall and Tonhalle Zürich, and Clara Duo debut concerts in Osaka, Japan.
Ms. Alex is not only an active chamber music performer but a dedicated piano teacher to children and adults of all ages all over the NYC metro area. Aleksandra became a faculty member for the Anselmo Academy (former Piano School of NYC) in 2006.
