Muys Snijders is an Art Advisor and Art Management consultant, speaker and auctioneer with over 20 years of experience in the international art world. She offers independent commercial advise across the full spectrum of the art market to new and seasoned collectors on art acquisitions, investments, and the sale of work of art in an ever growing increasingly complex and opaque marketplace. Muys is also the founder of Art Business Consulting, the first of its kind, New York based consulting firm focused on the art industry and specialized in providing management solutions to art business owners, investors, artists, and senior art world executives.
Before launching her own firms, Muys was the Head of Post War & Contemporary and Fine Art at Bonhams Auction house and a member of their USA Board. In this executive leadership role, she worked with a Private Equity firm to develop their 3-year plan to grow the US middle market.
Prior to that Muys worked with divisions globally at Christie’s, most recently as the Managing Director, Americas. Here she successfully defined, built and implemented aggressive growth strategies; to develop their online presence, launch in new markets such as china and scale their Global Private Sales platform, resulting in $1.2bn annually in sales and contributed to the success of countless high-profile sales, such as The 11th Hour, sold to benefit The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.
Muys holds an MA in Art History and Classical Archaeology from Leiden University in the Netherlands, as well as an MA in Arts Management from Greenwich University and an MA in Art Market Appraisal from Kingston University (accredited by the RICS) in the United Kingdom. Muys is also a graduate of the Senior Executive Leadership Program for China from Harvard Business School, Tsinghua University in Beijing, and CEIBS in Shanghai. and most recently obtained a Certificate in Alternative Investments from Harvard Business School. Muys is multilingual and has worked in Amsterdam, London, and New York. She is an honorary committee member of the Appraisal Association of America and the Dutch Centre in London and an active member of the Guggenheim Young Collectors Acquisition Committee, POWarts, Art Mamas and ArtTable, the foremost professional organization dedicated to advancing the leadership of womxn in the visual arts.
Muys used to play the piano, completed her Solfège and obtained the 4th grade in piano at the Landelijke Graadexamens Piano (LGP) in the Netherlands. She has a keen interest in classical music and opera. Together with her husband, they encourage their children with Luca (8) playing the piano, Lupo (4) experimenting with lots of different instruments; the guitar, and a cat shaped (!) piano being his favorites and Josephina (2) being a great fan of the Little Maestro’s and the New York City Ballet. They experience firsthand how music, dance and singing is impacting the lives of their children and look forward to support Anselmo’s Academy’s mission of advancing young people through music and art education.
