Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, Multiple Woodwinds, Music Education
Parker Peterson is a versatile multi-woodwind performer and educator based in Manhattan. Originally from Gautier, Mississippi, Parker first fell in love with music through middle school band, where he picked up the saxophone for the first time. His early passion for saxophone quickly expanded to include the full woodwind family, which he studied extensively throughout his undergraduate and graduate studies.
Parker holds a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education from the University of Mississippi and a Master’s in Multiple Woodwinds Performance and Pedagogy from Ohio University. As an educator, Parker has served as the adjunct professor of saxophone at Marietta College and was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Ohio University, where he taught undergraduate woodwind methods courses. He has given masterclasses across Mississippi and Ohio, focusing on topics such as intonation and articulation, vibrato through interpretation, and efficient saxophone warm-up strategies. His teaching philosophy is rooted in overcoming performance anxiety and technical challenges through the study of diverse and inclusive repertoire.
As a soloist, Parker has appeared with ensembles including the Ohio University Wind Symphony, the Marietta College Symphonic Band, and the Lewisburg High School Band (MS). He has also performed chamber music with the SONAX Saxophone Quartet (Southeastern Ohio) and the Ventura et Auri Saxophone Quartet (MS). Through chamber music, wind bands, and the Mississippi All-State Band, Parker has performed throughout the United States (Texas, Maine, North Dakota and Indiana) and abroad in Japan and the United Kingdom.
Parker is the recipient of the Phi Kappa Lambda Take Flight Award and the Gene A. Saucier Excellence in Music Scholarship from the University of Mississippi. At Ohio University, he was also inducted as a member of the Phi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.
Parker’s primary teachers include Stephanie McArthur, Adam Estes, Nave Graham, Matthew James, Alison Sincoff, and Rebecca Rischin.
