SUSAN LEITER
Piano, Guitar, Ukulele
Susan joins our school as a retiree from the Bird Department of the Bronx Zoo. She has played various instruments all her life, learning piano as a child, the harp as a teen, and guitar and ukulele as an adult. In addition, she played in a recorder quartet and sang in a women’s barbershop quartet and chorus.
Susan spent many years educating children about animals and the natural world. Children’s natural emotional response to subjects like animals and music, enables a teacher to foster the courage to try out new skills and discover a love of learning.
Making music is an ideal process for encouraging curiosity, experimentation, persistence, goal setting and most importantly; finding that mistakes are part of the learning process, and part of the fun!
Susan loves to work with young children, when their natural love for music can be transformed into a sense of themselves as a musician. She knows well that these early musical experiences create an interest that can enrich your entire life, no matter your chosen profession.
