Empowering Students Through the Joy of Music and the Arts

XIAOKANG DENG

Composition, Piano

Hi Everyone! My name is Xiao and I’m a composer currently based in New York City. I recently
graduated from the Mannes School of Music with a Master’s degree in Composition, and I did
my Bachelor’s degree at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Before studying music, I
actually had an engineering degree and worked as an aerospace engineer for 2 years.
I am mostly self-taught, and I feel very lucky and blessed to be doing what I truly love everyday.
Since 2019, I’ve been exploring various genres and instrumentations including numerous solo,
chamber, choral and orchestral pieces. Thanks to my publisher TUX People’s Music, I published
8 pieces in the past 3 years, and starting next year I’ll be publishing with Carl Fischer Music as
well. My pieces have won several honors for me, with my most recent publication “Merry
Christmas, Mr. Sakamoto” being included in the J.W. Pepper Editors’ Choice List for 2024-25.
My greatest inspirations are 2 Japanese Composers – Joe Hisaishi and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Like
them, I want to create beautiful emotional music that deeply touch people’s heart. I would love
to go into film scoring in the future, and I look forward to collaborating with aspiring directors
who share my vision of making this world a better world through the power of art. For all
collaborations, please feel free to get in touch with me through my email
(xkdengmusic@gmail.com), Instagram (@xiao.composer), YouTube channel (@xiao_MUSIC),
and publisher website (tuxpeoplesmusic.com/xiaokang-deng). I look forward to hearing from
you!
