
BRAD KANG
Guitar
Brad Kang is an award-winning NYC based guitarist, improvisor, composer and educator. Originally from South Korea, his formative years were spent in New Zealand where he owes much of his musical upbringing. Kang’s unique approach to music combines influences from his native Korean and Western cultures, having lived in Germany, Korea, New Zealand, and the United States.
Kang can be seen performing in international jazz festivals in the US, Europe and Oceania, appearing on over 20 albums as a sideman, playing shows on off-Broadway, performing with symphonic orchestras as well as being commissioned as a composer. He was a member of The University of North Texas One O’Clock Lab Band and was featured on the ensemble’s GRAMMY-nominated
As an educator, he also maintains a private teaching studio for students of all ages and has taught at the collegiate level at Ara Institute of Canterbury, guiding jazz guitar majors. He has given group lessons, taught improvisation classes, directed ensembles, held masterclasses, and adjudicated several jazz competitions. He has guided and helped young jazz guitar students successfully audition for prestigious schools Berklee College of Music, New York University and The University of North Texas.
