JOSEPH KIM
Joseph Kim is the Chief Executive Officer of Makai Labs. He has 25 years of experience architecting and developing complex enterprise solutions. For the past decade he’s focused on applying cognitive AI technologies with RPA to automate repetitive manual tasks across the enterprise, raising productivity by an order of magnitude for specific functions. In high school, he played violin and was the Governor’s Scholar for Hawaii in 1993, for which he attended the Interlochen Arts Camp on a full scholarship that summer.
Prior to starting Makai, Joseph was the Chief Automation Officer at PivotAi and Managing Director of Sequel Labs, an advanced technology product development practice at Sequel Studio. While leading PivotAi and Sequel Labs, Joseph developed consumer apps integrating machine vision and workflow automation solutions for enterprise clients. Joseph co-founded Nexops in 2005, where he led teams in fulfilling digital platform development work for JPMorgan Chase, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Adobe Systems, LVMH, and the United Nations Foundation. Earlier in his career, he was the Director of Consulting at a major biometric consulting firm, leading project teams to design and implement innovative biometric security solutions for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Department of State, and the Department of Homeland Security. His research focused on prototyping multimodal biometric matching systems, combining fingerprint, iris, and facial recognition devices and algorithms.
Joseph has appeared on Good Morning America and Nightline as a technology expert and has been quoted in hundreds of publications, including the New York Times, Forbes and USA Today. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence from MIT. He served as the Chair of the MIT Enterprise Forum NYC from 2017 to 2020.
