KATIE WEBSTER
Saxophone, Clarinet, Jazz Improvisation, Composition
Katie Webster is a versatile saxophonist, composer, band leader, and educator based out of Brooklyn, NYC. Originally from Seattle, Washington, she fell in love with music when she first picked up a clarinet at the age of 10. Inspired by the sounds of Cannonball Adderley, Johnny Hodges, and early American big band music, she was quickly drawn to the alto saxophone.
Katie Webster has performed at renowned international venues such as Bird’s Eye Jazz Club (CH), Porgy and Bess (AT), The Loft Köln (DE), Bern International Jazz Festival (CH), Vermont Jazz Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and Monterey Jazz Festival. She has performed in bands led by artists such as Tony Malaby, Pablo Held, and Julia Hülsmann. Fascinated by the relationship between music, storytelling, and visual media, in August 2024 she released an EP of her ongoing project “Within the Garden We Planted,” which is a growing series of interdisciplinary tributes to women activists throughout history. Her work aims to capture a bold and expressive approach to improvisation and composition.
Katie holds a BM in saxophone performance from Berklee College of Music and a MM in jazz performance from the Global Jazz Institute, where she studied with artists such as Danilo Pérez, Joe Lovano, Terri Lyne Carrington, George Garzone, and Kris Davis. Katie is an awardee of the 2023/24 Focusyear Fellowship in Basel, Switzerland and is a 2025 MacDowell Fellow.
