JOSE PIETRI-COIMBRE

Violin, Viola, Voice

Puerto-Rican born music educator, violinist, violist, baritone and countertenor José Pietri-Coimbre has had a very eclectic career spanning almost 30 years, and has appeared as a soloist and ensemble performer in all instruments internationally.

As a pedagogue, José’s passion for music education has led him to guiding hundreds of students since his youth. He combines methods like the Suzuki philosophy together with eclectic and holistic methods derived from his experiences in community-based programs, intense conservatory training, and stage experiences as a singer-actor and as a concert artist. Among other positions, he was the Chairperson of Chamber Music at Third Street Music School Settlement in NYC, and has also been a sought-after teaching artist in the tri-state area.

As a violinist and violist he has performed with ensembles in the US and Puerto Rico such as the orchestras for “Phantom of the Opera”, “My Fair Lady”, “Sweeney Todd”, “Spamalot”, “Hell’s Kitchen”, and “&Juliet” on Broadway, Puerto Rico Symphony, Puerto Rico Chamber Orchestra, Albany Symphony, Greenwich Symphony, Zipoli Ensemble for the American Baroque, and the Harlem Chamber Players Orchestra. He is passionate about chamber music, and has performed actively as an instrumentalist with the Harlem Chamber Players, tangos and more with Quartetto Tomassini, Baroque violin with Ensemble Leonarda, and in multiple chamber music performances as a guest artist in the US, Puerto Rico and Europe. He has also performed on stage and on TV with pop artists such as Marco Antonio Solis, Jennifer Lopez and Maluma.

As a vocalist, he has presented solo art song recitals in the United States, Europe and Puerto Rico. He appeared recently as a countertenor soloist with the Bach Society of Charleston, and as a baritone with Opera Lafayette at the Kennedy Center. He has also performed as soloist with the S.E.M. Ensemble, Early Music New York (both in opera and in concert), Music at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian, and Master Voices with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. He is part of multiple new music recordings with vocal ensembles such as Musica Sacra, New York Virtuoso Singers, The Clarion Choir, and Voices of Ascension, and has performed vocal chamber music with Voices of the New, a New Music initiative of Voices of Ascension in NYC. Mr. Pietri-Coimbre also sings regularly with the Professional Choir of St. Ignatius Loyola in NYC, St. Thomas Church at 5th Avenue, Trinity Wall Street, and Bard Festival Singers, among others.

In his spare time, José stays active as a sketch-realism visual artist.
