Stefano Battaglia is an Italian musician, performer, composer, and educator, New York based.
His passion for jazz music has led him to study in Italy and the United States, first at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia of Roma (ITA), and later as a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and graduate master’s program at Berklee Global Jazz Institute.
He performed with artists like George Garzone, Kenny Werner, Dave Kikoski, ‘Ra Kalam’ Bob Moses, Francisco Mela, Leo Genovese, Walter Smith III, Jonathan Kreisberg, Logan Richardson, Dayna Stephens, Jason Palmer, Benito Gonzalez, Bruce Ditmas, Luciana Sousa, Aruan Ortiz, Thomas Crane, Greg Burk, Marco Pignataro, John Arnold, Sarah McKenzie, Paolo Damiani, Flavio Boltro, Rosario Giuliani, Marcello Allulli, Marco Tamburini, Umbria Jazz Orchestra directed by Quincy Jones & John Clayton.
Performances at Carnegie Hall, Newport Jazz Festival, Lincoln Center NY, Toronto Jazz Festival, Roma Jazz Fest, Buenos Aires Jazz Festival, Peperoncino Italy, Fara Music Festival, Dominican Republic Jazz Festival. In 2012, Stefano received a scholarship for a week of studies at The Collective School of New York, USA. As a member of the band Unicam Jazz Quartet won first-place prizes at the Treviglio Young Jazz Talent Competition (Bergamo, Ita) and Fara Music Competition (Roma, ITA). In 2021 released the first album under his name, ‘The Best Things In Life Are Free’ (EMME Produzioni), which has been mentioned in the ‘JAZZIT100 the greatest jazz albums of the year’.
In the classical music environment, Stefano, earned a diploma in double bass, classical music at the Conservatorio Morlacchi of Perugia with the M. Daniele Roccato. He’s a member of ‘Ludus Gravis’, a stable ensemble of double basses, founded by Stefano Scodanibbio and Daniele Roccato, due to the execution of contemporary music. This ensemble performed in many festivals of Europe like “Musica D’Hoy” – Madrid, Spain – “Biennale” di Venezia, Italy, “Concerti del Quirinale” Roma, Ita- “Rassegna di Nuova Musica” Macerata, Ita – “Angelica” Bologna, “Borealis” Bergen – Norvegia, “Vinterfes tuka” Narvik – Norvegia, “ GAIDA International Contemporary Music Festival” Vilnius – Lithuania, “Ad Lucem Introvert Art Festival” Riga – Lettonia, “Music of Changes” Klaipédos – Lithuania, “Imago Dei” Krems,
Vienna – Austria, “Susa Festival” Naestved, Copenhagen – Danimarca, “Ciclo de Conciertos Fundación BBVA” Bilbao and Madrid – Spagna, “Unicum” Lubijana – Slovenia, “Be Quiet” Schio – Fabbrica Saccardo, ITA. The ensemble recorded for prestigious music labels as ECM, Wergo, Sky Arte, and directly worked with Terry Riley, Sofia Gubaidulina, Hans Werner Henze, Gavin Bryars, Julio Estrada.
